Finding Keywords

Method 1: Keyword Explorer

  1. Go to Keywords → Keyword Explorer
  2. Enter a seed keyword related to your business
  3. Moonrank shows:
    • Monthly search volume
    • Keyword difficulty (0-100 scale)
    • Search intent (Informational, Commercial, Transactional)
    • Related keywords
    • Competitor keywords (what your competitors rank for)

Method 2: Topic Clusters

  1. Enter a broad topic (e.g., “running shoes”)
  2. Moonrank automatically generates related keywords
  3. Organize into clusters by search intent
  4. Moonrank suggests which keywords to target first

Method 3: Competitor Analysis

  1. Go to Keywords → Competitor Keywords
  2. Enter competitor URLs
  3. See all keywords they rank for
  4. Find gaps - keywords they rank for but you don’t
  5. Prioritize high-opportunity keywords

Method 4: AI-Powered Suggestions

  1. Describe your business or product
  2. Let Moonrank generate keyword ideas using AI
  3. Review and select which keywords to track

Keyword Metrics Explained

  • Search Volume - Average monthly searches for this keyword
  • Keyword Difficulty - How hard it is to rank (0-100; higher = harder)
  • Search Intent - Why people search for this keyword:
    • Informational - Looking for information/answers
    • Commercial - Researching before a purchase
    • Transactional - Ready to buy
    • Navigational - Looking for a specific website
  • Trend - Is this keyword growing or declining in popularity
  • CPC - Cost per click in ads (indication of commercial value)
  • SERP Features - Does the search result page show ads, featured snippets, videos, etc.

Adding Keywords to Track

Manual Entry

  1. Click “Add Keywords”
  2. Enter one keyword per line
  3. Set your target ranking position (1-10, 11-20, etc.)
  4. Assign to your site
  5. Click “Start Tracking” Moonrank will check your rankings daily and alert you to changes.

Bulk Import

  1. Prepare a CSV file with your keywords
  2. Go to Keywords → Import
  3. Upload your CSV
  4. Map columns to keyword data
  5. Click “Import”

Tracking Your Rankings

Daily Rank Checking

Moonrank checks your keyword positions daily:
  • Position - Your current ranking position (1-100, or “not ranking”)
  • Change - How much your position moved since yesterday
  • Visibility - Estimated percentage of clicks you get at your position
  • Trend - Is your ranking going up, down, or stable over 30 days?

Keyword Status

  • Active - Currently tracking
  • Achieved - You’re ranking in position 1-3 (goal met!)
  • On Track - Good progress toward your target
  • Needs Attention - Dropped in rankings, needs optimization
  • New - Just added, less than 30 days of data

Historical Tracking

View your ranking history for each keyword:
  • Last 30 days
  • Last 90 days
  • Last year
  • All time

Keyword Organization

Create Keyword Groups

  1. Go to Keywords → Groups
  2. Click “Create Group”
  3. Name your group (e.g., “Product Keywords”, “Competitor Keywords”)
  4. Add keywords to the group
  5. Use groups to organize your tracking by topic, team member, or campaign

Assign to Articles

  1. In Articles, click on an article
  2. Scroll to “Target Keywords”
  3. Search and select keywords
  4. Moonrank links article performance to keyword rankings

  • View seasonal trends for each keyword

Based on your content and business, Moonrank recommends:
  • New keywords to create content for - Based on search volume and difficulty
  • Quick wins - Keywords you can rank for with minimal competition

  • Commercial keywords - Keywords indicating buyer intent
